| Fine Jewelrys

It’s a new year and I’m excited that I made a few New Year’s resolutions – one in particular involves being more proactive with jewelry auctions. What better way to put this thought into action than the Case Antiques Auction that is coming up later this month. It is the first auction of the year on my jewelry calendar and Circumstance Antiques always knocks it out of the park with their selection of jewels (and numerous other categories like art and decor, which have me vying to redecorate my house every time I look through their auction catalog). I have several things saved to bid on and wanted to show you my top picks in the jewelry category. Luckily for me, Situation Antiques is a local auction house, as they have an office here in Nashville, so sometimes I’m graced by an auction preview I get to view in person…however COVID times have put a damper on auction viewings too, among other things. The sale will take place in Knoxville, TN and online, where you can bid via LiveAuctioneers or Invaluable.

Check out my picks below and be sure to register to bid – this Winter Auction is taking place January 30th & 31st, 2021 and yes, it is a two-day event! I am registered through LiveAuctioneers and can recommend doing things that way. Last year, Case Antiques had an auction around the same time and I bid and won a single lot of several rings, one in particular that is one of my favorites in my collection – a lavender jade and onyx piece. So special.

Lot 31: This first lot to make me say “wow” is this exquisite diamond brooch. My eyes immediately jumped to the central old mine cut diamond and I instantly could picture it being worn on a winter coat or hat. The total diamond weight is approximately 3.13 carats, so you know it packs a punch! I love the notation added into the auction listing that states the center old mine diamond dates back to 1850 and has been passed down through the consigning family. What a treasure. Estimate: $3600-4000

Lot 32: If there’s anything at all gleaned from this past year, it’s that we must be thankful for what we already have. But then I see things like this major solitaire diamond and I can’t help but dream of big diamonds! This ring already has the simplicity I’m craving, with its four-prong mounting in white gold. The standout is the incredible 2.93 carat center stone, which has a clarity of VS-2 and color of J (GIA cert) so you know it is as sparkly as ever! Estimate: $12k-14k

Lot 37: I couldn’t pass by this piece without putting it on my list of favorites because it reminds me of a holiday ornament in the best way possible. I love the combination of ruby, sapphire and diamonds, with a splash of emeralds…along with cheap wedding ringsthe horizontal design. The piece is signed by its maker, Krypell and done in 18k yellow gold. Don’t you just love it?! Estimate: $3000-4000

Lot 39: Sticking with the diamond obsession, I wanted to highlight this ring because I’ve finally come around to loving emerald cuts. It took me awhile, but I’m here for them now! The secret to a beautiful one depends on a mixture of its cut, clarity and length-width ratio. I left out color purposefully because I truly don’t care about color. This ring is a major 3.19 carats (!!) and the clarity is SI-2 with an L for color. I bet it looks stunning when worn! Estimate: $5800-6200

Lot 40: If you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past several months, you might not know that domed rings are one of the biggest trends. This trend is entirely portrayed in this ring – a big, juicy center stone (in this scenario a sapphire), a domed design, all established in rich and buttery yellow gold. What sets this piece apart are the unique pear-shaped diamonds flanking the center stone. An unusual gem cut for side stones, and both equally large. I love this ring! Estimate: $7200-7800

Lot 252: Since having my son, I’ve been obsessed with emeralds (that’s his birthstone). This one is truly special, being over 2.50 carats and such a hypnotizing forest green color. I like the simple setting because it allows the stone to be the focus and can easily be worn every day. The setting is 14k yellow gold. Estimate: $2200-2400

Lot 483: Something about this ring screams Ice Queen! I love a good aquamarine, and this ring features an impeccable one that’s approximately 10 carats. Again, a simple setting is what has my attention lately, it just sets the stone up for sparkle. The ring is currently a size 8 1/2 and another good thing about simple settings is the ease of sizing, so this can easily go up or best place to buy engagement ringdown several sizes if needed. Estimate: $1400-1600

Lot 493: I’m glad this auction has some options to add to your necklace stack, because that has been a big focus for me this year. When I read that this piece is a woven mesh, I had to zoom in to see the fine details. I love the intricacy of a mesh necklace and this one is top notch. The clasp has a beautiful hidden detail – a cabochon cut sapphire. I urge you to check out the zoomed in detail on this piece! Estimate: $1000-1200

Lot 503: This lot looks like a snapshot from my personal jewelry collection! I love a good gemstone solitaire pendant and the variety here is unbeatable. You have five different pendants, all really beautiful gemstones…like fire agate, malachite, amethyst and topaz. This would be a great lot to buy if you’re starting out your fine jewelry collection. It can also be a good one to buy and gift to five different people – one bid, five gifts! As you can tell I’m already trying to plan gift-giving for next year, so I’m better prepared this time! Estimate: $750-850

Lot 839: I wanted to include this ring in my top picks because this era – 60s/70s – is one of my favorites and one I’ve been collecting lately. I love the geometric design and boldness of this ring. The gemstone is a smoky quartz, which I feel like I can never find anymore. Brown, tan and neutral are top trending colors in fashion, and I can easily see this ring being versatile and complementary to so many outfits. Estimate: $600-800

Lot 843: The final pick of mine is this diamond dinner ring. I had a few similar ones go through my possession before finding a new home, but I always come back to this style and continually ready to own one again. The black enamel detailing is what sets this apart from others I’ve seen. The diamonds total 0.86 carats and looks like it is in amazing condition! Estimate: $650-850
